Walking in Love

Scripture: Romans 14:13 (TPT)

“Let us stop judging one another. Instead, determine never to deliberately cause a brother or sister to stumble and fall because of your actions.”

“Those who are mature in their faith should be patient with those who are not and should be willing to share their weaknesses. We must not live to please ourselves. Instead, we should help others by doing what is right and build them up in the Lord. For even the Messiah did not live to please Himself…”

Devotion

Walking in love means choosing to build others up rather than tear them down. Paul reminds us not only to avoid causing others to stumble but also to lovingly carry the weaknesses of those who are still growing in their faith. Spiritual maturity is not measured by how much we know, but by how well we love.

Jesus is our perfect example. He did not live to please Himself but gave His life for others. When we choose patience over criticism, encouragement over judgment, and service over self-interest, we reflect the heart of Christ.

Example

A friend or someone you know struggles with habits that you have already overcome. Instead of becoming impatient or criticizing them for not changing fast enough, you remember how patient God has been with you. You walk alongside them, pray for them, and encourage them one step at a time. Rather than becoming a stumbling block, you become a source of strength and hope.

Personal Example

I remember in a meeting where someone misunderstood what I had pointed out and spoke negatively about it. My first reaction was to defend myself and point out where the person was wrong. But as I prayed, the Lord reminded me that loving the person was more important than winning the argument. Instead of reacting, I chose to listen, clarify gently, and continue treating the person with kindness. The conversation didn’t end perfectly, but it preserved our relationship and allowed God to work in both of our hearts. That experience reminded me that walking in love often means laying down our pride for the sake of unity.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me with patience and grace. Help me to walk in love by putting the needs of others before my own. Teach me to encourage rather than judge, to strengthen rather than discourage, and to reflect Your servant heart in all I do. May my life help others grow closer to You. Amen.
