Trusting God’s promises so we can enter His rest

Hebrews 3:12–19 (TPT)

“Search your hearts every day… make sure that none of you has evil or unbelief hiding within you… encourage each other so that sin’s deceitfulness will not harden your hearts.”

The writer of Hebrews warns that unbelief can quietly harden our hearts. Israel saw God’s miracles in the wilderness, yet they still doubted Him. Because of unbelief, they could not enter the rest God had prepared.

Today unbelief often appears in everyday worries and discouragements.

Sometimes unbelief sounds like:

  • “What if God will not provide for us after retirement?”
  • “What if our mortgages, debts, and bills cannot be paid?”
  • “The people around me will never change.”
  • “Our property that was damaged has no value anymore.”
  • “This condo with many problems cannot be repaired.”
  • “My son’s attitude will never change.”
  • “Our marriage intimacy will never be the same again.”
  • “Our country will never improve.”
  • “We may never have our own house again.”
  • “What if we cannot survive difficult times ahead?”
  • “Maybe I will never overcome my weaknesses.”
  • “Maybe I cannot really change anymore.”

These thoughts are human, but if we hold on to them, they slowly become unbelief. God invites us to replace these fears with the truth of His Word.

Truth from Scripture

God will provide for our needs
Philippians 4:19 — “My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

God can provide even in financial pressure
2 Corinthians 9:8 — “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need…”

God can change hearts
Ezekiel 36:26 — “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.”

God restores what seems lost
Joel 2:25 — “I will restore to you the years the locusts have eaten.”

Nothing is too hard for God
Jeremiah 32:27 — “Is anything too hard for Me?”

God is faithful to our children
Isaiah 54:13 — “All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.”

God remains sovereign over nations
2 Chronicles 7:14 — “If my people humble themselves and pray… I will heal their land.”

God will be with us in every trial
Isaiah 43:2 — “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”

God Completes the Work He Started in Us

Philippians 1:6
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

God is not finished with us.
Transformation is a lifelong work of grace, and the Holy Spirit continues to shape us into Christ’s image.

Reflection

  1. What worries in my life reveal areas of unbelief in my heart?
  2. Are financial fears causing me to doubt God’s provision?
  3. Is there a person or situation I have stopped believing God can change?
  4. What promise of God do I need to hold on to today?

Prayer of Confession and Trust

Lord,

Your Word warns me about the danger of unbelief. Today I confess that fear and doubt sometimes take root in my heart.

Forgive me for doubting Your provision for our future and worrying about mortgages, debts, and bills.

Forgive me for losing hope that people can change and that difficult situations can be restored.

Forgive me when I doubt that You can redeem what seems broken in my family, my home, and my future.

Today I choose to trust You again.

You are my provider.
You are my restorer.
You are the One who changes hearts.
You are the One who sustains me in every season.

Even when I cannot see the answers yet, I believe that You are working.

My life, my family, and my future are in Your faithful hands.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
