“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” — Matthew 11:28–29 (NIV)
A Life in a Hurry
I realized I have been living a hurried lifestyle all my life. This morning, I ate so fast, walked fast, and moved fast—even in my time with God, I was in a rush. While taking a shower, I was already thinking about my next task. My days are filled with deadlines and back-to-back programs. I often stay up late, chasing unfinished work.
Even in conversations, I hurry. Sometimes I finish my husband’s sentences for him—something I now see as dishonoring. I interrupt people, eager to give advice before they even finish speaking. I wasn’t truly listening—I was always preparing my next response.
The Gift of Slowing Down
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, the freshness of morning air, and the beauty of the sky. The stillness reminded me that God’s presence is not confined to quiet places—it’s always there; I just often move too fast to notice it.
This morning, while eating breakfast, I sensed the Lord whisper, “Eat slowly, Vicky. Let’s enjoy our time together. Chill lang tayo.” It was such a tender correction—an invitation, not a scolding.
I’ve begun to notice the beauty of the mundane—the way sunlight filters through leaves, the sound of silence, the scent of coffee. I’m learning to listen deeply to His heart, to be present in the moment, to give space to myself and simply be.
My body already bears the marks of years of busyness — the aches, the fatigue, the anxious rush. Yet, I sense God inviting me to live differently. I heard Him say in my heart,
“I brought you here, My daughter — to learn to value being unhurried.”
The words of a writer came to mind: “An unexamined life is not worth living.” And maybe the hurried life is the unexamined one — when we are too busy to notice, too rushed to listen, too preoccupied to receive love.
Then I found myself asking,
“Father, why does time seem to move so fast? I’m not yet done with what I need to do. Is Jesus coming soon? How do You want me to live my life?”
And in that still moment, I sensed His loving reply: “My daughter, I am not in a hurry. You can fulfill your purpose as Jesus did—unhurried, focused, and at peace. You don’t have to do everything; just what I’ve asked of you.. There are others I have called to carry what you cannot. Surrender. Learn the rhythm of My Son. Work not from pressure, but from peace — from what He has already accomplished.”
Those words sank deeply into my heart. I realized that living an unhurried life is not laziness — it’s obedience. It’s choosing to move at the pace of love, not the pace of the world. It’s living with open hands, trusting that I don’t have to carry everything, because God is still at work even when I am at rest.
So here I am, still learning. Learning to breathe deeply. To eat slowly. To walk without rushing. To listen without interrupting. To live not buried under busyness, but rooted in God’s love.
I am learning the unhurried way of Jesus —
the way of peace, presence, and surrender.
The way of love that never hurries, yet always fulfills its purpose in time
Practical Ways to Live an Unhurried Life
- Begin your day in silence. Before checking your phone or to-do list, pause. Acknowledge God’s presence.
- Practice mindful eating. Savor each bite as a shared moment with the Lord.
- Walk slowly. Notice your surroundings; breathe in God’s creation.
- Listen without interrupting. Honor others by giving them your full attention.
- Embrace Sabbath rhythms. Set aside time for rest, reflection, and renewal.
A Quote to Ponder
“Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”
— Dallas Willard

Lord, thank You for gently showing me how hurried my heart has become. Teach me to walk in step with Your rhythm—slow, peaceful, and intentional. Help me to notice the beauty of each moment, to listen deeply, and to rest in Your presence. Amen.
Poem: “In the Stillness, I Find You”
In the rush of days that never end,
You whisper softly, “Come, my friend.”
Not in the noise, nor in the run,
But in still waters—there, I’m one.
You teach my heart to slow its pace,
To linger long in Your embrace.
Each breath, each step, becomes a prayer,
A quiet knowing—You are there.
So here I lay my hurry down,
Exchange my striving for Your crown.
In every pause, Your love breaks through,
In stillness, Lord, I walk with You.
